Monday Does Not Equal Quiet

View from Mt. Mitchell North Carolina

Quiet is not the word I’d use to describe Monday.

Mondays are noisy getting lunches ready, rush hour, car pool, the longest to-do list of the week.

Monday is not quiet.

But it’s today’s #hopewriterlife Instagram prompt and makes me consider that quiet is exactly what Monday needs.

This photo, taken from Mt. Mitchel in the North Carolina mountains, is my new laptop wallpaper as it draws my mind to stillness. It calms the busyness that swirls around me. My breath is measured and what felt necessary eases its grip.

Monday doesn’t carry the same hustle it did before retirement but neither is it quiet.

There are floors to sweep and bathrooms to clean. There’s no lingering longer in bed.

One of my mom’s favorite things was quiet. Surrounded by hurry and people and voices throughout the day she treasured the quiet moments of the morning. Even Monday mornings.

We can choose quiet.

I’m participating in a 5-day word prompt with Hope*Writers. You can find it on Instagram with the hashtag #hopewriterlife You don’t have to be a Hope*Writers member to participate.
